After holding back for a while, Miranda Lambert has finally spoken out over a recent video that a concertgoer took of her. She also doesn’t seem to be regretting it.
The 39-year-old was on stage performing at her Velvet Rodeo Las Vegas residency on Saturday, July 15, when it all began.
Upon witnessing a couple of girls taking photographs with their phones, Lambert stopped the music midway through her hit song Tin Man and addressed the audience.
The Texas native vented her annoyance with the girls, saying they seemed more interested in snapping photographs than actually listening to the song. “I’m going to stop right here for a second,” she said, gesturing to a spot in the throng. Instead than listening to the song, these females are preoccupied with their selfie. I’m a little pissed off by it.
Many in attendance applauded the country singer as she went on, saying, “It’s not what I enjoy at all. I’m singing some dang country music; we’re here to hear some tonight. Lambert then suggested that everyone take a seat and began the song anew.
The audience’s reaction when she started singing again was a little ambiguous. While some fans left the arena in protest, others clapped, whistled, and yelled in favor of the singer.
Thousands of comments were left by users on TikTok after a fan-recorded video of the incident went viral. There was disagreement on Miranda’s response, with some saying they loved her and others not so much. Some, on the other hand, were more understanding and thought that spectators ought to focus only on the performers they had paid to see.
However, based on her recent comments about the matter, Lambert obviously has no regrets about how she handled the event.
The country singer noticed someone in the audience wearing a T-shirt that said, “Shoot Tequila, Not Selfies,” during another performance during her Vegas residency. Lambert told the fan, “That’s bada**,” as if the allusion had made him laugh.
The audience applauded enthusiastically when she read the wording on the shirt and pointed at the fan.
Lambert chuckled and seemed to acknowledge the uproar surrounding the original selfie incident, saying, “She did it, I didn’t.”
After bending down to give the person wearing the shirt a praise, the singer drank a half-shot of tequila and gave the remaining portion to her guitarist, Ethan Ballinger.
Her new remarks seem to be the first time she has addressed the selfie incident in public, which caused a lot of controversy and polarized her fan base.
